About Us

With over 14 years of ornithological and ecological consultancy experience to his name, Paul Massey established Sterna Ecology in March 2016, an independent ecological consultancy specialising in Ornithological survey, assessment and reporting.  Paul is a very experienced birder and ornithologist with 30 years of survey experience, including over 20 years professional ecological experience.  Prior to forming Sterna Ecology Paul was a Senior Consultant (Head of Ecology & Ornithology) at TNEI Services and an Associate Director at E3 Ecology before that.

It’s been a busy two years since Sterna Ecology was established in March 2016, during which time we have provided ornithological and ecological services for over 50 projects, for a range of clients.  These projects have included wind farms, industrial sites (including a nuclear power station, rail terminus and abattoir), a port redevelopment, housing developments, landfill sites, quarries and a number of Habitats Regulations Assessments (both for SPAs and SACs) amongst others.  Sterna Ecology have extensive experience of undertaking surveys and assessments, for the full range of ornithological and ecological issues, in support of a range of development projects.  Our rates continue to be very competitive, particularly for experienced ornithologists and ecologists.  Paul is a full Member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) with Sterna Ecology thus adhering strictly to CIEEM's Code of Conduct.
